Hi, everyone! We’ve been dealing with a family health issue for the past few weeks, and with things being so hectic, I decided I’d treat you all to a fabulous guest post or two! The first one comes from the lovely Christina over at Oven Adventures. As soon as I saw her site, looked through her recipes, and saw her photos, I was instantly a fan! She’s the sweetest, and she’s created a sweet recipe for you all, so enjoy!
Hi La Casa de Sweets readers! It’s nice to meet you. I’m Christina from Mis-Cakes Oven Adventures. My blog is about my adventures being a novice baker. I love being in the kitchen up to my elbows in flour, chocolate and sprinkles. I’m honored to be able to add one of my treats to La Casa de Sweets.
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and though I am not the biggest fan of Valentine’s Day, I love Valentine’s Day treats. I’ve made cupcakes, red velvet twisted hearts and now I bring you (drum roll please) Chocolate Valentine’s.
These are great to do with the kids. My daughter had a blast! All you need is some chocolate, candy melts and SPRINKLES.
Chocolate Valentines
Ingredients:
- 8 oz. milk chocolate
- 8 oz. white chocolate
- 1 cup pink candy melts
- 1 cup red candy melts
- Assorted sprinkles and candies – about 1 cup
Instructions:
Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper. Trace 10 hearts about 2 inches apart. I traced a heart cookie cutter but you can just cut a heart out of paper and trace it. Flip over your parchment (so writing doesn’t transfer to your hearts).
In a double boiler melt your milk chocolate just until smooth. Let your chocolate sit until it comes to room temperature (a couple minutes). If your chocolate is a bit too warm it will pour out of your bag and you will have to pipe really fast. Pour chocolate into a piping bag or a Ziploc bag. Cut the corner off and pipe chocolate onto your hearts. Start with your outline and fill in the centre with chocolate. Repeat until all your hearts are covered with chocolate. You want it about 1/8 -1/4 inch thick. Once all your hearts are piped out smooth them out with a small offset spatula or a knife.
Put them in the fridge to set and cool until the chocolate becomes matte.
Melt your candy melts following the package instructions. Pipe the candy melts directly on to your hearts chocolate hearts. I did half of the hearts pink and half red. You will need to smooth as you pipe because the candy melts harden super fast.
Once your candy melts are all piped onto your hearts you can melt your white chocolate.
Again, in a double boiler melt your white chocolate until smooth. Let it sit until it comes to room temperature. Pour into a piping bag and pipe on top of your candy melts. Smooth out and decorate with SPRINKLES!!!
*if you prefer to heat your chocolate in the microwave heat at 50% power and stir every 30 seconds.
Store in an airtight container.
Enjoy!
Makes ten 3 inch hearts.
