A few weeks ago, my family and I went on a tour of the South through Charleston and Savannah, and I was determined to taste my way through the South, one restaurant and bakery at a time! As some of you know, in addition to my charity work and dessert company, I am also a restaurant reviewer for a local newspaper. I love trying new foods and new places, and I really wanted to get to know traditional Southern cuisine. I visited a lot of different places, from small cafes, to Paula Deen’s famous The Lady and Sons. Here are my top three, and if you’re ever in the Charleston or Savannah area, you should check them out!
- For true Southern cuisine, try Virginia’s On King in Charleston. Their sweet potato fries and tomato soup are absolutely delicious!
- Goose Feathers Cafe in Savannah offers really good breakfast food and pastries at great prices. Their cinnamon rolls literally melt in your mouth.
- My absolute favorite place was River Street Sweets in Charleston. Their candies were phenomenal! Their chocolate-dipped marshmallows, nut clusters, and coconut patties were delicious, and their pralines…ah, their pralines. TOO good! Everything we tried there was good, and left us wanting more. If you’re in the mood for some yummy treats, I would definitely recommend ordering some chocolate-covered goodness, and don’t forget the pralines!
Now more than ever I realllllllly want to travel to the south-the food looks heavenly!!! Sounds like you had a fun and delicious trip. Thanks for sharing!
