One of my favorite things to do once Memorial Day comes around is to make homemade BBQ sauce. It’s just one of those things that lets me know summer is just around the corner. Making BBQ sauce is so easy, it’s almost hard to stop trying out different flavors every few weeks. Our favorite version last year was this Chipotle Lime sauce, but this spicy peach might be a close second.
For this BBQ sauce, I decided to go sweet and spicy by adding peaches as well as a kick from a few chili peppers. If you’re not in to too much spice when it comes to your BBQ sauce, use less of the peppers, or leave them out altogether. You can always add a few more peppers, too, if you want it even hotter. And that’s what’s great about making your own sauce at home. The flavor is all up to you!

Spicy Peach BBQ Sauce
Makes about 3 cups
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 2 hot cherry peppers, seeds removed and diced
- 2-1/2 cups ketchup
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1-1/4 cups water
- 1 cup chopped peaches (fresh or canned)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- Pinch of ground cinnamon
In a large pot, over medium heat, mix all of the ingredients until combined. Bring the BBQ sauce to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low, and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened (about 1 hour).
Once the sauce has been cooking for 1 hour, use an immersion blender to puree the BBQ sauce until smooth.
Remove from the heat, and pour the sauce through a fine-mesh strainer into a large bowl. Serve warm over grilled food, and enjoy!
Note: if you’re not planning on using the BBQ sauce immediately, cool the strained sauce completely and store in a microwave-safe container. When ready to use, reheat the sauce at 1 minute increments until warm.
