White Chocolate Marzipan Hearts

Now that Valentines Day is only a few days away, my girls are getting pretty excited about what they lovingly refer to as “the day of love.” We usually don’t make a big deal about Valentines Day around here, but I usually make a few heart-shaped treats to share with my family and friends. Just a little something to say, hey you’re loved by me…

This year, I’m bringing marzipan hearts to the Valentines Day dessert table. Marzipan is one of my favorite types of candy, mainly because of its gritty texture and lovely almond flavor! Here, I used a small heart-shaped cookie cutter to make hearts out of the marzipan, and dipped the hearts in melted white chocolate. I added a few pink, red and white nonpareils to make the hearts look even more festive.

Little almond-flavored hearts, from our family to yours…

White Chocolate Marzipan Hearts

Makes 12-14 hearts

Ingredients:

  • 7 oz. marzipan paste
  • 5 oz. white chocolate or vanilla-flavored almond bark
  • red, pink, and white nonpareils, for decorating

Instructions:

Line a baking sheet with wax paper, and set aside. On another sheet of wax paper, use a sharp knife to slice the marzipan paste into 12-14 sections. Use a rolling pin to roll out each marzipan section to 1/4 inch thick. Use a small heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut a heart into each rolled out marzipan section. Please the marzipan hearts on the lined baking sheet, and chill for at least 1 hour.

Once chilled, melt the white chocolate (or almond bark, if using) in the microwave in 30-second increments, stirring after every 30 seconds, until completely melted and smooth. Remove the marzipan hearts from the refrigerator, and use a fork to dip each heart in the melted chocolate, making sure to coat both sides of the heart. Tap the fork on the sides of the bowl a few times to remove any excess chocolate, and carefully place the coated heart back on the lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with a few nonpareils.

Repeat until all the marzipans hearts have been dipped in the white chocolate and sprinkled with nonpareils. Chill at least 1 hour before enjoying!
