Cookies for a Cause: Share Our Strength Holiday Bake Sale

Fellow Bakers, Bloggers, and Friends,

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and I hope you are as excited as I am about the holidays!

I wanted to let you know about a project I am working on for this December.  It’s our Cookies for a Cause Holiday Bake Sale!  I am encouraging bakers, bloggers, anyone, to bake, sell, and donate the proceeds to Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign.

There’s nothing like celebrating the holidays with your family and friends, creating wonderful memories year after year. It’s so sad to think that not everyone has a chance to enjoy the holidays as we do. There are around 16 million hungry children in America today, and more than 15 million children living in poverty. That’s 1 in 5 children who do not have enough to eat, day in and day out.

Here’s how it would work:

1.  Choose something you’d like to bake and sell.  It can be cookies, cupcakes, brownies, whatever you want.  I find cookies to be the easiest, since you can get a lot of cookies out of a few ingredients, plus they are so easy to package in a bag with a nice bow.  I usually recommend offering people 2 or 3 different kinds of cookies.  The price is up to you.

2.  Sell your cookies.  I find the easiest thing to do is take orders via email.  This avoids having to find a “bake sale” location, set-up, clean-up, etc.  Taking orders by email is the easiest thing, plus you can bake your cookies beforehand, and deliver them all the same day.  In the past, I have contacted my church, local schools, local businesses, and the businesses of friends and family and I’ve had huge success.  Everyone wants a good cookie, plus they feel good knowing they’re donating to charity!

Another fun way to sell your cookies is to host a cookie swap at home!  Get your friends and family together for a fun evening of hot chocolate and cookies!  Ask everyone who participates to make a donation (let them know beforehand so they are prepared!).  This way, you can all have a good time and know you’ve made a difference as well!

3.  Collect the money, and donate it online to Share Our Strength.  The great thing about donating to SOS this December is that every single donation will be matched!!!  How great is that?!  For just a few hours time baking (which, we are going to do anyway, right?!) we can really make a difference in the lives of hungry children around the US.  Once you’ve donated, send me an email with the total you collected, and we’ll total everyone’s donations and present SOS with our total Cookies for a Cause donation!

I know we’re all busy with the holidays, but you have a whole month to get this done!  The money will need to be tallied and donated by Dec 31st. Since the orders will be coming in via email, you can get the word out, get the orders in, and plan your baking day accordingly.  A few hours, some fun in the kitchen, and all for a great cause.

The best part of this is we can all participate, no matter which state or country you live in, we can all bake to make a difference!

Don’t have time to bake?  Donate online to SOS, and send me the confirmation email, and I’ll add your donation to our total!

If you’re interested, please let me know!  I hope you will all join me in baking for a cause.

Much love to you and your families during this holiday season,
~Jackie~

    Hi!!

Since I have to make around 500 cookies for a special holiday order (plus the cookies I make weekly for my cousin’s deli) I would LOVE to donate some of the money I earn to Share Our Strength. I will contact you soon with more details.

    🙂

  • You’ve inspired me to host a cookie and other sweet treats party this weekend and I’ve have asked everyone invited to bring a few dollars to donate to SOS. Hopefully I’ll get lots of friends stopping by and my donation bucket will collect a lot. I’ll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the inspiration!

I was up at 6:30 this morning chopping chocolate to get some cookie dough made and my husband peered into the kitchen bleary-eyed and said, “Oh, it’s you. I though raccoons were chewing on the house.” and then went back to bed. It would be better if our kitchen weren’t directly beneath our bedroom.
